Mr.
Richardson is president of Housing Strategies, Inc., a real estate
development and consulting firm.
HSI consulting engagements specialize in affordable housing
development and finance. Recent clients include for-profit and nonprofit
developers, other financial and advisory firms, and the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development. Assignments range from workouts
and restructuring complex affordable housing projects to research
and analysis of public policy issues.
In addition to his consulting
practice, Mr. Richardson is developer of several residential and commercial real estate
projects in Vermont.
From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Richardson was president of Housing Vermont, a nonprofit developer of affordable rental housing. He was previously a partner of the Boston Financial Group, a diversified real estate investment firm. During six years with Boston Financial, he led the company’s efforts to recapitalize older HUD-assisted properties. He was also involved with acquiring properties for tax credit investments.
Mr. Richardson currently serves as chair of the board of trustees of Vermont College of Fine Arts. He has been a board member of numerous national organizations, including the Housing Partnership Network, the Institute for Responsible Housing Preservation (chair), the National Housing Conference, and the advisory board of the Housing and Development Reporter. Mr. Richardson has worked on USAID assignments in South Africa and Sri Lanka.
In the 1980s, Mr. Richardson held senior positions with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Communities and Development and with a development company in Boston that rehabilitated and managed low-income rental housing. He also owned a Washington-based consulting firm for seven years. In the early-1970s, Mr. Richardson served as executive assistant to the mayor of Boston and director of the San Francisco Model Cities Agency.
Mr. Richardson holds a B.A. degree from Williams College and a Master in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
